Biography
He earned his B.S. in Journalism at Northwestern, his M.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University.
One of the nation’s most prominent sociologists, his research
interests include the sociology of science, public policy, race and
ethnicity and deviance. Author of Backdoor to Eugenics and The Legislation of Morality, he is the co-author/co-editor of numerous other works, including Whitewashing Race: The Myth of a Colorblind Society, with M. Brown, et al., and Cultural Perspectives on Biological Knowledge, co-edited with Karen Garrett.
